Book Reviews: January 2021

This is a new year and we are all hoping for it to be better than 2020. Coronavirus has changed all our lives, so Christmas was different. This year I got a Kindle, so I have read so far for 35 hours and 11 minutes since the 25th December. A Kindle is a really great item for readers. Recently, I discovered a really good book. Even though it is a girly book, I think it is great. The Sleepover Club is an awesome series written by different authors. If you have a Fire for kids unlimited subscription, the books are on there.

Another of my favourites is a mystery book, Scarlet and Ivy. The Lost Twin is the first in the trilogy. It’s about when a girl called Scarlet disappears, her twin Ivy comes to Rookwood School to take her place. It must be a secret between Miss Fox and Ivy. Soon Ivy finds her sister’s diary and she and Ariadnel must piece together the clues. This book is published by Harper Collins.

A really good read is the trilogy: Next Best Junior Chef by Charise Mericle Harper, where 4 junior cooks come from all other the world to compete. There are mini-challenges, the pantry run and the field trip. They must work hard to amaze the judges. But on Thursday, it’s the elimination challenge where one chef must leave.

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide, is a book about some aspects of Hogwarts. Presented by Pottermore, J.K. Rowling gives her thoughts at the end of each chapter. In this book, you can learn about the ghosts and how to get into the Ravenclaw tower.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a great series by Jeff Kinney. A middle school boy called Greg Heffley gives us an insight into his life by writing his ‘diary’.

Others like Pamela Butchart, David Walliams and Francesca Cavallo are also good authors.
